Theory Test.

The theory test is made up of two parts; the multiple choice part and the hazard perception part.

Part One. Theory Test.                                                                                           On the theory test you will be asked 50 multiple choice Questions and need to get 43 correct to pass. You have 57 minutes to answer the 50 questions.

Part Two. Hazard Perception.                                                                                   The hazard perception part is delivered on a computer but you respond by clicking a button on the mouse. You'll be presented with a series of 14 video clips which feature every day road scenes. In each clip there will be at least one developing hazard, but one of the clips will feature two developing hazards. The maximum you can score on each hazard is five points. On the double hazard clip you can score ten points. You need to Score 44 out of 75 to pass this part.

You need to pass both parts on the same attempted. Once you have passed the theory test you can then apply to take your practical driving test.

Practical Test.

Your driving test will start with an eyesight check and some vehicle safety questions. You will then start your practical driving test which will include some specific manoeuvres.
The driving test will last about 40 minutes. Throughout the test your examiner will be looking for an overall safe standard of driving, including when you are carrying out the manoeuvres. You can make up to 15 driving faults and still pass the test (16 or more results in failure). However, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault you will fail the test.

Pass Plus.

The DSA recommends that new car drivers who have just passed their practical test consider taking Pass Plus. Pass Plus is a course of six extra modules taken with a driving instructor after passing your test. If you are aged between 17 - 19 Kent County Council will contribute £60 towards the cost of Pass Plus. (Subject to available funding)
